What was the last blessing in disguise you received?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for January 28, 2009:

I feel like I probably had more recent ones, but this particular one stands out in my mind and heart:

Breaking up with the ex. It was a very bad relationship, built on mutual mistrust and anger. I am much happier now that I am not with him, though I was quite unhappy when it initially happened, and for many months afterwards.

Freedom from that love and that hate have made my life much more beautiful, fulfilling, and above all happy.

If you could live forever, would you?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for January 26, 2009:

That depends on how healthy I would be. Would I be able to move around? Would I be able to see the world as it changed? More importantly, would I be able to see it, hear it, understand it, feel it?

Looking at my life now and how relatively well-adjusted and optimistic I am, I am not particularly fearful of being an ornery old woman. But there is always  a chance of Alzheimer's, head injury, some other disease or disability that will prevent me from experiencing the world as it is. If that were to happen, there would be no point in living forever or even another 100 years. What would be the difference? If you cannot see the change, what's the point of living through it?

Like most of my answers to these kinds of questions, there is nothing clear-cut, there is no possibility of objectivity.

Have you been thinking more of the past or the future?

Future! And the present, or, at least, the very very near future. I have been so busy with school and music and preparations for shows that it's mostly all I can focus on. Which is nice, because those are all things I really enjoy. I'm also getting back into a regular meditation schedule (with the help of my friends and school mates), which is letting me be more in the present.

I also am looking a bit to the future. Trying to make plans for travel, trying to figure out what my life will be like after I graduate, etc. The travel is concrete, the life after graduation not so much. My really good plan just got a large hole poked in it by my adviser. But I think that hole can become a window of opportunity to find something better!!
