Meditation Club

Posted on Jan 28th, 2008 by Sarah : Music Maker Sarah
Today was a very fulfilling day. Not only did I go to school, eat good meals, get lots of hugs, and all that other good stuff, but I went to the first meeting of the Meditation Club at City College this semester. I really like the faculty advisor (I can't remember his name, because he gave us his spirit name, and, of course, uncommon names are harder to remember than common names, and non-western names tend to be harder for me to remember than western names. I do remember his step-mother's name, though: Saphira. Just because it sounds like "Sapphire"). He led us through a heartbeat meditation, which was very nice, relaxing and envigorating.

I have been trying to establish a regular home practice for my zen meditation, so this club will be really good for not giving me the motivation but the time and place, as well as a way of learning about other forms of meditation. I'm really looking forward to going to the meetings throughout the semester!

Also, if anyone happens to come across this that goes to City College of San Francisco, there is a lecture that they are hosting this Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Diego Rivera Theater. The speakers are Puran and Susanna Bair (who happen to be the father and other step-mother of the faculty advisor whose name I forget), and they are giving a lecture about their new book "Energize Your Heart."

I will definitely be there!
